Viral Spring #6: Comes the Revolution

Somebody tell Bernie --Socialism is here.

The White House last night said it will authorize $100 billion in emergency funds to reimburse hospitals and health care providers for treating uninsured people.   Universal health care, courtesy of the Coronavirus.

The government is sending guaranteed income checks to everyone, and paying our medical bills.  And by the way: Immigrant farm workers, documented or not, are now classified as "essential workers" by the Department of Homeland Security. They are "critical to the food supply chain."

Democrats could never win these battles -- the opposition was too entrenched.  So the revolution comes from the right, tinged with fascism.

Along with yesterday's government handouts came another purge:  President Trump is firing the whistle-blower who reported his threats against Ukraine, the phone call that triggered his impeachment.

The president also nominated a 37-year-old federal judge from Kentucky to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, one step from the Supreme Court.  Judge Justin Walker is rated "unqualified" by the American Bar Association; he is a protege of Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell.

The president is above us all.  And he doesn't need to wear a mask.

How does it all play out?  In the worst-case scenario:  the constitution is trashed or suspended, enemies of the state suppressed.  Nothing but fake news from the top.  Bankruptcy, hyper-inflation, default, depression.  The wheel of history crushing anyone in its path.

More likely: The constitution takes a pounding from the right, checks and balances tilt further toward executive power -- and the US becomes a more or less normal welfare state, with medical care, basic income, and food security for all.  Taxes rise.  The birth rate implodes.

I hear a fading voice from the past:  George H.W. Bush, a normal president, chirps his cliche -- "Stay tuned."  And pray.
