Listen up, everybody: Brad Parscale, President Donny's campaign manager, has an important announcement, Brad?
"For nearly three years we have been building a juggernaut campaign (Death Star). It is firing on all cylinders. Data, Digital, TV, Political, Surrogates, Coalitions, etc. In a few days we start pressing FIRE for the first time." !!!!
Thus tweeted Parscale last week, shortly after the President threatened to sue him over a poll showing him ten points behind Joe Biden.
The last guy who boasted about an attack before pressing "fire" was Donald Rumsfeld, defense secretary for George W. Bush -- who in 2003 called his machine "Shock and Awe." It was supposed to be so awful that the invasion of Iraq would be over almost as soon as it began, with Iraqis panicking at the sight of American power.
Like Rumsfeld, Parscale is super smart and super confident. He says Joe Biden won't know what hit him. So what can we expect from his video game?
A few days ago a friend, a person of color, a churchgoing family man I know and like, sent me a sample of what we can expect, asking me to watch it with an open mind. It was a video clip about three minutes long, a shouted "interview" with shots of fires and crashes interspersed. Its point was that the Pandemic (like climate change) is a hoax! The Covid-19 death toll is supposedly being inflated by a nationwide conspiracy of doctors, falsifying death certificates to make the president look bad. The report cited several other conspiracy theories -- 5G signals, killer vaccinations -- to drive the idea that we're all in the grip of a secret network of evil-doers, bent on stealing our money, our health, our freedom, our very lives.
And this is how the Death Star operates. When Brad presses "play" --- sorry, "fire" -- his platform will launch a barrage of wild charges, accusing Biden and the Democrats of everything that's coming from the White House and the Death Star itself: fear-mongering, spreading rumors and fake news, sowing confusion and suspicion, sabotaging the truth. It's a simple tactic: Jack steals Jill's lunch, points at her and screams "thief!" A commotion covers his tracks.
And who is it bent on stealing our money, our health, our freedom, and our lives? Somehow we're asked to believe it's the party that's not in power. Take away the commotion, and it's easy to see who wants to rig the financial system to benefit billionaires, take health insurance from the poor, take food stamps from the hungry, make the Department of Justice serve the president instead of the people, suppress voting rights for persons of color, and even cause the deaths of tens of thousands more Americans from Covid-19 in a desperate bid to jump-start the economy and make the president re-electable.
The entire Republican agenda will be attributed to the Democrats, to distract the public from the actual thieves and murderers.
Pandemonium will obscure the Pandemic. The Death Star will say it's the Democrats "throwing a Hail Mary." But it's them, people, and they're hailing not the Mother of God, but the Father of Lies.
Strong words? Sue me, Donny.
